(IBEXNews) - An explosive Lifetime documentary series covering distressing allegations against R. Kelly has prompted a criminal investigation into the singer’s behavior, according to a new report.

Investigators from the Fulton County District Attorney’s office in Georgia are currently looking into the situation and have tried to touch base with some of the women featured in the six-part series, TMZ reported.

Kelly is accused of manipulating women and controlling their lives, in addition to numerous accusations of sexual misconduct, all of which he has denied.

A rep for the Fulton County District Attorney’s office declined to comment.

A rep for Kelly also had “no comment.”

Authorities involved in the probe have reportedly contacted Asante McGee, a former girlfriend of Kelly who has spoken out multiple times about the alleged abuse she endured from Kelly. They’ve also been in touch with a lawyer representing the family of Joycelyn Savage, a woman living with the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer.

Savage’s parents have accused Kelly of brainwashing their daughter, while Savage has denied her family’s claims.

Her parents first opened about their allegations against the R&B artist in a 2017 report by Buzzfeed, which cited a police report in which Savage's mother told officials she believed her daughter was being controlled by Kelly as part of his “cult.”

McGee, too, spoke out against Kelly in that report and has remained vocal about him since.

The accusations against Kelly have garnered renewed attention in recent days after Lifetime premiered its series, “Surviving R. Kelly,” last Thursday. The investigation reportedly began after a wave of calls to officials after the series debuted.

Kelly, 52, has been accused of inappropriate behavior with multiple underage girls in the past, which he has denied. He allegedly married the late singer Aaliyah in 1994, when she was 15.

The singer was acquitted in a highly publicized child pornography case in 2008 after being accused of appearing in a sex tape with an underage girl years earlier.
