(IBEXNews) - Atlanta-based rapper 21 Savage is actually from the United Kingdom and is in the country on an expired visa, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Sunday after arresting the musician.
The rapper, whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was taken into custody Sunday morning as an “unlawfully present United Kingdom national,” ICE spokesman Brian Cox told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
21 Savage allegedly entered the United States on a one-year visa in July 2005, but stayed after it expired, according to ICE.
The 26-year-old musician was arrested in 2014 on felony drug charges.

He is now in “removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts,” ICE told the Journal-Constitution.
21 Savage will face a federal immigration judge, who will then determine what to do next.
The rapper, who has collaborated recently on songs with Cardi B, Post Malone and J. Cole, performed Thursday at State Farm Arena in Atlanta at the Super Bowl Music Fest, alongside Migos, Ludacris, T.I. and Young Jeezy.
A spokesperson listed for the rapper did not immediately return a request for comment.
