(IBEXNews) - A Long Island high school junior varsity baseball coach was arrested for alleged sexual abuse of one of his students, officials said Saturday.
Tyler Murphy, 25, of Islip, was charged with sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child for “inappropriately touching” a 16-year-old female student at Islip High School, officials said.
In a statement, the Islip School District said Murphy was fired, and that players and their families had been notified.
Murphy allegedly accosted the student on high school grounds about 8:20 p.m. Thursday, officials said. The student told other school staffers, who then contacted detectives at the Suffolk Police Department’s Special Victims Section, officials said.

Murphy was arrested at his home Friday evening. His arraignment was pending.
