DaBaby Cited for Marijuana Possession, Resisting Arrest After Concert in Charlotte

IBexNews - Grammy-nominated rapper DaBaby was handcuffed and taken to a Charlotte jail and cited with marijuana possession after a concert Monday.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, on-duty officers working security at the Bojangles Coliseum smelled marijuana coming from DaBaby’s car when he arrived at the arena. They waited until after the show to speak with him, but claim that he refused to speak to officers so he was put in handcuffs and told a legal search of his car led to the police finding marijuana.
DaBaby was then taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Department and cited with marijuana possession and resist, obstruct and delay after the police decided not to arrest him.
DaBaby, 28, posted on Instagram that the search was illegal. He also told reporters outside the jail that he had video proving he was mistreated.
“Y’all will see how dirty the CMPD police department just did me on the holidays in front of my daughter as I was putting on a show for my city,” he said.
He also said it was not the first time he had been harassed by the city’s law enforcement.
“Absolutely. Every time I come here, every time,” DaBaby said. “They follow me, they pull us over for no reason, they search our cars, they do everything. They treat us like animals.”
Prior to the concert, DaBaby donated toys to over 200 children in the Charlotte area.
“We gone let the police department use the local news channels to cover their tracks then I’ll give the world our perspective. Keep in mind we have high resolution video and audio over here at the hottest label in the world.”
“Someone died last night while the police department wasting resources and officers to harass me in attempt to make a bad example out of me. When in reality, i’m the most positive example the city of Charlotte got. Especially for anybody in the streets of Charlotte and the KIDS.”

DaBaby is up for the best rap performance of the year and best rap song Grammys at the January awards show.
